Mariah Carey will usher in 2017 with a headlining performance from Times Square on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, the Associated Press reports.
Carey will perform right before the ball drops, while the show’s lineup will also feature Joe Jonas’ pop-rock outfit DNCE, country musician Thomas Rhett and Gloria Estefan alongside the cast of her new Broadway musical, On Your Feet! Seacrest will host the five-and-a-half hour show with Jenny McCarthy, who will also chat with revelers gathered in Times Square. Meanwhile, Fergie will host the show’s Billboard Hollywood Party from Los Angeles.
Carey previously performed on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in 2005, months after the release of her LP, The Emancipation of Mimi. The singer has spent much of 2016 on the road, a trek that will be chronicled in her new new E! docu-series, Mariah’s World, which premieres December 4th at 9 p.m. ET. Over the past few years, Carey has held down a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but will close out her Las Vegas stand next year with a string of shows in April and May.
Meanwhile, 2016 was a breakout year for DNCE, who followed the success of their single “Cake By the Ocean” with a self-titled debut album that arrived in November. The project marked a fresh start for Jonas, who struggled to find success as a solo artist following the breakup of the Jonas Brothers.
“The band has been such a joy for all of us,” Jonas told Rolling Stone. “We get to live our dreams, yet again, for all of us who have been in bands and played with other artists. It can be difficult in this day and age to get second chances in the music industry. There’s so much material out there. To make a mark, it really feels great.”
