A conspiracy theorist’s claim that child pageant Queen JonBenet Ramsey is alive and well is gaining traction online. The 1996 slaying of the six-year-old remains unsolved and in one of America’s most captivating and enduring cold cases.
JonBenet Patricia Ramsey was murdered in her home in Boulder, Colorado, in 1996. Police found her body in the basement of the family home about eight hours after she was reported missing. She had been blugeoned and strangled.
The case remains unsolved, despite several grand jury hearings, and remains a popular subject—partially due to allegations that her parents were responsible for her death.
But now, internet conspiracy theorists are saying that JonBenet was never actually killed, and that she’s currently hiding in plain sight as one of the world’s biggest celebrities.
But…Who is it? Katy Perry???
Katy Perry, one of the biggest stars in the world, whose music has reached hundreds of millions of people globally, and who is the recipient of 85 different music awards is, ….JonBenet Ramsey??? There are a lot of holes in this story.
In a recently resurfaced YouTube video from December 2014, the faceless voice of Dave Johnson proclaims that the bizarre 1996 Ramsey murder case was all a hoax that Perry, 31, has kept under wraps in her rise to fame.
In the video, while images go by comparing Ramsey and Perry’s appearances, Johnston says “All of these people are liars, man. Nobody died, nobody got hurt. That sacrifice was in name only, and that was to get something, and that something was to become a star. JonBenet became Katy Perry, and that’s a fact.” Johnston then rattles off several facts to bolster his claim, including that JonBenet’s parents, John and Patsy, look quite similar to Perry’s own parents.
Another theorist, going by the Youtube handle “Jungle Surfer,” also mentioned the fact that Perry and JonBenet look alike, right down to their similar eyebrows. “You know, the eyebrows don’t change much on a person. You’re born with your eyebrows. They’re very close, very close indeed, aren’t they? … As you know, this whole entertainment industry is just a charade — you really don’t know the truth.”
Of course, there are some basic factual problems with the theory—most notably, that Perry is 31, while Ramsey would only have been 25 this year. But that doesn’t seem to be stopping the theory from spreading.
